LP Crisis is Karma for Betrayal – Ex-Presidential Aspirant
Former Labour Party (LP) presidential aspirant Faduri Joseph has described the ongoing crisis in the party as “poetic justice,” blaming it on the betrayal he says he suffered during the 2022 primaries.
In a statement on Saturday, Faduri claimed that key party figures conspired to edge him out of the presidential race in favour of Peter Obi, after allegedly manipulating the primary process. He said his early efforts in reviving the LP and laying the foundation for a credible third force were ignored and ultimately hijacked.
“What is happening in the Labour Party today is nothing short of poetic justice — a karma unfolding before the very eyes of the nation,” Faduri stated. “It is the consequence of the injustice, betrayal, and deceit done to me and my team in 2022, when some leaders of the party connived to rob me of the presidential ticket — a ticket we labored tirelessly to build — and handed it over to Mr. Peter Obi.”
He recounted reaching out to LP leaders and rallying support when the party was, in his words, “a dead structure — no plan, no preparation, no hope.” According to him, despite building momentum and visibility for the party, the process leading to the Asaba primaries was abruptly disrupted, and the ticket was given to Obi just five days before the event.
“But just five days before our primaries, those same leaders sold their conscience. They betrayed me and handed the ticket to Mr. Peter Obi in exchange for money. I was forced out of the race,” Faduri alleged.
Faduri, who leads the Rescue Movement for a New Nigeria (RM), said the party has lacked peace and unity ever since and asserted that Obi’s candidacy was flawed from the start.
“The candidacy of Peter Obi was built on injustice. No matter how loud the noise or how vast the donations, the foundation was flawed. And just as they cheated me, the system cheated them in return,” he said.
He also questioned the moral authority of the LP leadership to guide Nigeria’s future and hinted at another presidential bid.
“I remain a member of Labour Party, but I have not yet decided the platform on which I will run in 2027. What I do know is this: I will run again for the presidency of Nigeria in 2027,” he declared.
