Livestock Ministry: “Our Hope is Renewed” – MACBAN
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has emphasized the potential of the livestock sector to significantly boost Nigeria’s economy. This announcement follows President Bola Tinubu’s creation of a new ministry dedicated to livestock development.
Baba Othman-Ngelzarma, the President of MACBAN, shared these views during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme. He highlighted the untapped potential of the livestock sector, contrasting Nigeria’s current state with neighboring countries that have harnessed this sector more effectively.
With Lagos consuming approximately 6,000 cows daily and 1.8 million cattle annually, Othman-Ngelzarma illustrated the vast opportunities within the sector. “It will go a long way in tapping the enormous potential of the livestock sector,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the new ministry would facilitate advancements in “production, processing, transportation, management, and security” of livestock. According to Othman-Ngelzarma, if properly organized and developed, the livestock sector could become a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economy.
The MACBAN leader praised President Tinubu for the timely establishment of the ministry, acknowledging it as a response to long-standing demands. “This is what we have been agitating for and today, we have it. We are so excited and very happy. Our hope has been renewed under the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President,” he stated.
