Lawyer Stabbed by Client’s Husband Over Divorce Suit

A lawyer named Abayomi Oladire was reportedly attacked and stabbed by Kunle Kuteyi, the husband of his client, over a divorce suit Oladire was preparing for Kuteyi’s wife.

Eyewitnesses allege that Kuteyi used a broken bottle to stab Oladire while he was performing his legal duties for the suspect’s wife. According to Vanguard, the attack occurred as Oladire was en route to a ceremony. Kuteyi reportedly stopped him and accused him of having an affair with his wife, which escalated into a violent confrontation.

An eyewitness recounted: “The victim was stabbed viciously all over his body. He was later rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital by sympathizers.”

In a detailed account of the events leading up to the incident, Oladire explained that the wife of the suspect had approached him with a court judgment stating her husband was ordered to pay N2 million to a complainant. Upon reviewing the judgment, Oladire found that both the husband and wife were required to pay N2 million each, which he communicated to her. The wife subsequently paid the amount through the complainant’s lawyer and later asked Oladire to prepare divorce papers due to her husband’s deception.

However, she later decided to withdraw the divorce request after her husband’s family intervened. Oladire agreed to inform the judge of the change on the next court date.

On the day of the incident, Oladire was heading to his sister’s baby-naming ceremony when he encountered Kuteyi, who confronted him about the divorce papers and accused him of an affair with his wife. Despite Oladire’s explanation that the divorce was being withdrawn, Kuteyi attacked him, biting his jaw and stabbing him with a broken bottle.

“All I could do was guard myself to prevent him from stabbing me in my neck or other dangerous parts of my body,” Oladire recounted.

Despite the severity of the attack, Oladire claims that Kuteyi is still at large and has not been apprehended by the police. The police have confirmed the incident and stated that they are actively searching for the suspect but require more enforcement to secure his arrest.
