Landlady, Husband on the Run After Discarding Tenant’s Body in Canal
A landlord identified as Bola Abiodun and her husband, Sunday, have fled their residence in Temidire community, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, after allegedly disposing of their tenant’s body in a nearby canal.
The incident, which happened around 12:05 pm on May 8, 2024, prompted the state police command to initiate a manhunt for the couple following their sudden disappearance after the purported crime.
According to a police source within the command, who chose to remain anonymous, the deceased tenant, known as Iya Ibukun, had been involved in a hit-and-run accident on May 5, 2024. Despite sustaining injuries, Ibukun opted for self-medication due to concerns over medical expenses. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries a few days later within her rented apartment.
Allegedly, the landlord and her husband then removed the body from the premises and disposed of it in a nearby canal, sparking suspicion among residents.
Mosuru Akindele, the chairman of the Community Development Association, was alerted by concerned residents, leading to the involvement of the police in the investigation.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, stated that efforts were underway to recover the body from the canal. Additionally, authorities discovered a two-year-old child left behind in the residence.
This disturbing event echoes a similar case from previous years, where another landlord, Sunday Omosule, was apprehended for allegedly killing a tenant’s four-year-old son. Omosule, residing at Onipanu, Ota, was arrested following a distress call to the local police division.
