Labour Party: Peter Obi Reacts to Court Ruling Affirming Julius Abure as National Chairman

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has responded to the recent Federal High Court ruling that reaffirmed Barrister Julius Abure as the legitimate National Chairman of the party.

Obi’s reaction follows a court decision that validated the 2024 Labour Party national convention held in Nnewi, where Abure was reelected. The court confirmed that the convention adhered to all relevant laws in Nigeria.

In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obi disclosed that he had met with Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, along with the Caretaker Chairman and Secretary of the party, to review the ruling and discuss recent developments.

He called on party members to remain calm and focused, stating that the party’s goal is to emerge stronger and more unified. Obi emphasized the importance of not allowing internal issues to detract from the Labour Party’s mission to address the pressing challenges facing Nigeria.

“Yesterday, Governor Alex Otti and I, along with the Caretaker Chairman and Secretary of the Labour Party, convened to discuss and review recent developments, including the judgment delivered by an Abuja High Court. I urge all members of the Labour Party to remain calm and patient as we continue to engage in discussions and consultations,” Obi said.

“Our goal is to emerge stronger and more unified, standing together as one united front. We must not allow this to divert us from addressing the pressing issues affecting our people today. We have always known that the task of creating a new Nigeria will not come without challenges.”
