KWAM 1 Appointed Nigerian Airport Security Ambassador

The Nigerian government has appointed Fuji music legend, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), in a statement posted on X. Keyamo said the move was part of a broader government strategy to improve awareness about aviation safety and passenger conduct at airports.

According to the minister, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will work directly with KWAM 1 in his new role, engaging him to promote airport security procedures and the importance of compliance with aviation regulations among the travelling public.

“In the case of KWAM 1, FAAN will also work with the music star with a view to engaging him as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol going forward,” Keyamo stated.

The appointment comes in the wake of a recent ValueJet incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, in which KWAM 1 was involved. While the matter initially resulted in criminal complaints and a lengthy flight ban, both the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the government have since resolved the dispute on compassionate grounds after the musician demonstrated remorse.

As part of his ambassadorial role, KWAM 1 is expected to participate in public awareness campaigns, work with aviation agencies to promote best practices for passenger behaviour, and use his influence to advocate for calm, respectful interactions between travellers and airport staff.

The government says the decision reflects its commitment to turning recent high-profile disputes into opportunities for education and improvement within the aviation sector.
