Kogi State Governorship Elections: Supreme Court rules against PDP
The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its governorship candidate, Musa Wada challenging the re-election of Governor Yahaya Bello of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the November 16, 2019 governorship election held in Kogi state.
It upheld the earlier judgement of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, which had on July 4, dismissed the case of the PDP and its candidate, and validated the majority decision of the Kogi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal that affirmed governor Bello’s election victory.
In a unanimous judgement, the seven-member panel of the apex court led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Tanko Mohammed, held that the appeal lacks merit and subsequently dismissed it.
