Kogi Bus Attack: One Dead, Three Abducted in Adavi Highway Ambush
At least one person was killed and three others abducted when gunmen attacked a passenger bus in Kogi State on Monday. The attack occurred between 3:00pm and 3:15pm at Aku village along the Okene/Lokoja Federal Highway in Adavi Local Government Area.
According to Ibrahim Omeiza Sani, Controller-General of the Kogi State Vigilante Service (KSVS), the assailants, suspected to be Fulani bandits in military camouflage, targeted an 18-seater Toyota bus with registration number Benue DAP 325 LG.
KSVS operatives from Osara Command, supported by six local hunters, responded to the distress call and engaged the attackers in a gun battle. While the kidnappers escaped with three passengers, the bus driver and three others were rescued. A bystander was killed by a stray bullet during the chaos.
Sani confirmed that intelligence operations have begun to track the kidnappers and secure the release of the victims. He commended the bravery of his men and the local hunters, while praising Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for prioritizing security and Jerry Omodara, the State Security Adviser, for supporting the Vigilante Service.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, emphasizing that the KSVS will continue pursuing criminals to ensure they face the law.
The attack comes just a week after the District Head of Bagaji Odo in Omala Local Government Area, David Akpa, regained his freedom after being abducted by unknown assailants on September 1.
