“Keep Watching Porn”: Pastor Advises Amidst Controversy

In late February, Dr. Abel Damina, founder of Abel Damina Ministries International, stirred controversy with his unconventional remedy for porn addiction during an appearance on Comfort FM’s RIOT program in Uyo, Nigeria.

Instead of advising struggling individuals to cease watching porn, Damina suggested they continue watching while simultaneously immersing themselves in the word of God. He recommended spending more time listening to sermons and teachings, believing that this would gradually diminish the desire for porn and cultivate a healthier appetite for spirituality.

However, Damina’s advice has ignited fierce debate, particularly among conservative Christians who view pornography as a sinful indulgence. Prominent figures like Pastor Gideon Odoma of Fortress Ministry condemned Damina’s approach, labeling it as a trivialization of sexual immorality.

Even Pastor Chris Oyakhilome weighed in, citing biblical scripture to denounce pornography as a shameful act that believers should shun entirely. Social media echoed with dissent, with users expressing concern and disagreement over Damina’s teachings.

Nevertheless, some individuals, including Pastor Oge of Circle Church, defended Damina’s perspective, citing personal struggles with addiction and the need for a different approach to overcome it. They argued that Damina’s advice, although controversially phrased, aligns with biblical principles of spiritual transformation.

Damina, known for his role as CEO of Kingdom Life Network and Senior Pastor of Power City International, maintains a significant following through his television program RIOT, where he continues to propagate his teachings despite the ongoing controversy surrounding his stance on porn addiction.
