Katsina Woman Honored with N500,000 for Returning Government Funds Mistakenly Transferred to Her Account

The Katsina State government has rewarded Malama Amina Abdulkadir-Yanmama with N500,000 for her honesty in returning N748,320 mistakenly credited to her bank account. The funds were part of the federal government’s home-grown school feeding programme in Katsina, intended for vendors providing free meals to primary school pupils.

According to Mudassir Nasir, the Executive Director of the Katsina State Social Investment Programme Agency (KASIPA), Ms. Abdulkadir-Yanmama received an alert with a description indicating the payment was for food vendors. Realizing she was not part of the programme, she visited the KASIPA office to report the mistake.

Following a thorough verification process, including a review of her bank statement and confirmation by the office of the auditor-general, it was established that her claim was truthful. In recognition of her integrity, Governor Dikko Radda directed that she be rewarded with N500,000, a commendation letter, and an offer to participate in the next school feeding programme.

Auditor-General Anas Tukur-Abdulƙadir also praised Ms. Abdulkadir-Yanmama for her honesty. Speaking on her decision, she said, “I knew that I had to return the money because it doesn’t belong to me.”

She expressed gratitude to the governor and KASIPA management for their support and encouragement, emphasizing the importance of doing the right thing.
