Katsina Orders Immediate Shutdown of All Public Schools Amid Escalating Security Threats

Katsina State has ordered all public schools to close immediately as authorities respond to rising security concerns and renewed bandit attacks in several communities. The directive was confirmed on Friday by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Yusuf Sulaiman Jibia, who said the move is aimed at protecting students and teachers while security agencies roll out a new statewide safety plan.

Jibia acknowledged that examinations are ongoing, but stressed that ensuring the safety of school environments takes precedence. He described the closure as a temporary action that will remain in effect until a full assessment of vulnerable areas is completed.

Information gathered shows that the decision comes on the heels of recent student abductions in Kebbi and Niger States, incidents that have increased concern among families and officials across the North-West. Jibia assured residents that schools will reopen once security reviews are finalized and stronger protective measures are in place.
