Kano State Governor Hires Tinubu’s Lawyer to Reclaim Mandate

In a strategic move to reclaim his mandate, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has appointed the esteemed legal luminary Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) to lead the charge in the Court of Appeal. This decision follows the Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal’s recent ruling, which nullified Yusuf’s victory and declared his opponent, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the rightful winner of the March 18 gubernatorial election.

Governor Yusuf has vigorously contested the tribunal’s verdict, lodging a comprehensive 42-ground appeal before the appellate court. In this appeal, he seeks to have the tribunal’s judgment overturned and the APC’s petition dismissed.

Notably, Chief Wole Olanipekun, who previously led President Bola Tinubu’s legal team at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), is now the chief counsel representing Governor Yusuf. Alongside him, the legal team includes Bode Olanipekun (SAN), Ibrahim G. Waru, and Akintola Makinde, with the legal firm Wole Olanipekun & Co spearheading the appeal. Chief E.O.B. Offiong continues to serve as counsel for the APC in this high-stakes legal battle.

This development sets the stage for a compelling legal showdown at the Court of Appeal, as Governor Yusuf is determined to regain his mandate and secure a favorable outcome in the ongoing electoral dispute.
