Kano Governor Abba Yusuf Takes Legal Battle to Supreme Court Following Appeal Court’s Controversial Verdict
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State is now seeking recourse from the highest legal authority, the Supreme Court, to challenge the contentious decision of the Appeal Court that ousted him from office.
The Appeal Court had recently ruled against Yusuf, a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), citing his ineligibility to contest the governorship election. The verdict declared Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the rightful winner of the state’s gubernatorial race.
Adding to the complexity of the situation, confusion ensued after the Appeal Court instructed concerned legal representatives to return certified true copies of the judgment for corrections. This move raised eyebrows, further intensifying the uncertainty surrounding the fate of Governor Yusuf.
The crux of the Appeal Court’s decision hinged on its assertion that Yusuf was not a bona fide member of the NNPP during the election. However, the certified true copies of the judgment have introduced a paradox, suggesting that the court simultaneously upheld Yusuf’s victory.
As the legal battle escalates, Kano State finds itself gripped by a political and judicial maelstrom, with the Supreme Court now poised to untangle the intricacies of this high-stakes dispute.
