Kamala Harris Blasts Biden’s 2024 Reelection Bid, Claims White House Undermined Her Campaign

Former Vice President Kamala Harris has sharply criticized ex-President Joe Biden, accusing him of recklessly pursuing reelection in 2024 and undermining her own presidential campaign. In excerpts from her forthcoming memoir, 107 Days, published by The Atlantic on Wednesday, Harris alleges that Biden’s inner circle sidelined her throughout his administration and assigned her “thankless” policy work that hurt her political standing.

Harris claims Biden’s advisers actively undercut her, failed to defend her from Republican attacks, and even reprimanded her after a speech in Selma, Alabama, calling for increased aid to Gaza. She wrote, “Their thinking was zero-sum: If she’s shining, he’s dimmed. None of them grasped that if I did well, he did well.” Harris argued that her visible success as vice president was crucial given concerns about Biden’s age.

She also criticized herself and other senior Democrats for not pressuring Biden to step aside sooner, saying his insistence on running again put both the party and the country at risk. “Was it grace, or was it recklessness? In retrospect, I think it was recklessness,” Harris wrote.

Biden eventually withdrew from the race in July 2024 following a poor debate performance. By that point, Harris’ campaign had spent $1.5 billion over 15 weeks but fell short, losing to Donald Trump, who won a second term with 312 electoral votes to Harris’ 226.

Harris’ memoir, scheduled for release on September 23, promises an insider account of the 2024 campaign and tensions within the Democratic Party. A spokesperson for Biden declined to comment when contacted by Politico.
