Kaduna Businessman Petitions Police, Alleges Sheikh Gumi Is Harboring His Moroccan Wife
A Kaduna businessman, Nasir Musa Idris, has filed a formal complaint with the Nigerian Police Force, alleging that prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi is refusing to release his Moroccan wife, Khadija Daib. The dispute reportedly began after Idris introduced his wife to Gumi’s Moroccan wife, Amal, during a chance meeting at a shopping mall. The two women reportedly developed a friendship, and Khadija began visiting Gumi’s residence frequently.
According to Idris, his wife has been staying at Gumi’s home since September following a disagreement, and all efforts to have her return have been unsuccessful. Idris’s lawyers, M.K. Associates, submitted a petition dated October 27 stating that Idris legally married Khadija in Morocco in October 2024, completing all required procedures at the Nigerian Embassy, and later solemnized the marriage in Nigeria.
The petition claims that Idris introduced his wife to Amal to connect her with a fellow Moroccan, but alleged negative influence from Amal led Khadija to act against her husband. Idris recounted on Lumana FM’s Hausa programme *Rigar Kaya* that on September 16, while he was away at his first wife’s residence, Khadija called him requesting an urgent meeting. She reportedly demanded that Idris divorce his first wife to continue their marriage, a request that sparked a serious disagreement.
Idris claims that Khadija later reached out to Gumi’s wife, prompting the cleric to invite both women to his home. Idris alleges that Gumi asked him to leave his wife at the residence, after which she refused to return. Idris says repeated attempts to resolve the matter have failed.
Attempts to reach Sheikh Gumi for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages sent to his known phone number.
