JUST IN: Widespread IT Outage Disrupts Banks, Airlines, and More
A significant IT outage has caused major disruptions across global institutions, affecting banks, airlines, media outlets, and hospitals.
Emergency services in some U.S. states have reported impacts, and numerous airlines have grounded flights worldwide. In Australia, the situation is particularly severe, with broadcast networks scrambling as systems fail and supermarkets struggle to operate.
Sky News briefly went off air due to the outage but has since resumed with an apology for the interruption.
While the exact cause of the outage remains unclear, many affected parties are pointing to Microsoft PC operating systems. Microsoft has acknowledged an issue impacting Microsoft 365 apps and services but reported that the majority of services had been restored hours earlier.
In Australia, there have been reports of long queues at Woolworths due to payment system failures, and customers have experienced difficulties accessing financial services, including those at National Australia Bank.
