JUST IN: VeryDarkman Wears School Uniform to Protest at FCT Minister’s Gate Over 9-Week Teachers’ Strike

Popular activist VeryDarkman led a bold protest today at the FCT Minister’s residence in Abuja, dressed in a school uniform and accompanied by school pupils, to spotlight the ongoing 9-week teachers’ strike crippling public education in the capital.

The strike, driven by FCT primary school teachers, is over unpaid salary arrears and failure to implement the ₦70,000 minimum wage. Teachers say they are still being paid ₦30,000 monthly, despite the FCT Administration’s ₦4.1 billion fund release in April.

VeryDarkman’s symbolic protest highlights the frustration of thousands of students forced out of classrooms—many now seen hawking in the streets—as the government prioritizes other spending.

At the center of the controversy is FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who is under fire for spending ₦39 billion on renovating the International Conference Centre (ICC), while public schools remain shut and teachers unpaid.

Talks have so far failed, with the teachers’ union demanding full payment and wage implementation.
