JUST IN: Two Rivers Lawmakers Withdraw Support for Governor Fubara’s Impeachment
Two lawmakers in Rivers State have reversed their stance in the ongoing impeachment effort against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy. Sylvanus Nwankwo, Minority Leader and representative of Omuma State Constituency, and Peter Abbey, representing Degema Constituency, announced their decision at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday.
The lawmakers said their decision followed appeals from state elders and community leaders urging caution and reconciliation.
“We appeal to our colleagues in the Assembly to temper justice with mercy and explore ways to resolve this matter without resorting to impeachment,” they stated.
Nwankwo and Abbey acknowledged the alleged constitutional breaches by the Governor and Deputy Governor but emphasized the need for an amicable resolution.
