JUST IN: Two Helicopters Collide Mid-Air, Killing Five
In a tragic accident near Eura Airfield in Finland, five people have been confirmed dead after two civilian helicopters collided mid-air around 12:00 local time (10:00 GMT). Both aircraft had departed earlier from the Estonian capital, Tallinn, and were en route to an aviation event at the Piikajärvi Flight Center in Kokemäki.
Authorities discovered the wreckage in a wooded area close to Eura Airport. According to police, one of the helicopters was carrying two people and the other three. All five individuals died in the crash. The helicopters were foreign-registered civilian aircraft.
Local police have launched an investigation into the cause of the mid-air collision, and officials from both Finland and Estonia are working together on the probe.
