JUST IN: Tinubu Swears In Professor Joash Amupitan as New INEC Chairman
President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The ceremony took place at 1:50 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, inside the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
During the swearing-in, President Tinubu urged Professor Amupitan to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system and to strengthen INEC’s institutional capacity. The President emphasized the importance of credible elections as the foundation of democracy and tasked the new chairman with ensuring transparency and fairness in all electoral processes.
Professor Amupitan’s appointment follows his confirmation by the Senate on October 16, after a rigorous screening session. His assumption of office marks the beginning of a new chapter for the electoral body as the nation prepares for upcoming elections.
