JUST IN: Tinubu Sacks Wale Edun, Umar Dangiwa in Cabinet Reshuffle
President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, along with the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Umar Dangiwa, as part of a cabinet reshuffle announced on Tuesday.
The decision was communicated through a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
The statement directed that all handover activities between outgoing and incoming officials be concluded by Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Under the new arrangement, Taiwo Oyedele will take over the finance and economy portfolio, replacing Edun. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State for Finance.
For the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named ministerial nominee and designate, with a directive that the outgoing minister completes handover to the Minister of State within the ministry.
The presidency said the changes are aimed at improving coordination across key sectors and strengthening delivery on economic priorities under the administration’s policy direction.
It also stated that the president acted within constitutional powers governing ministerial appointments and reassignment, and thanked the affected ministers for their service.
