JUST IN: Speed Darlington Granted Bail After Nearly a Month in Custody
Controversial rapper Darlington Achakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been granted bail after spending nearly a month in police custody. The news was confirmed by his lawyer, Stanley Alieke, who shared the update via Instagram on Monday. In his post, Alieke wrote, “Apki has been granted bail by the court,” but provided no further details.
Speed Darlington was arrested on November 27 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State. His detention was reportedly linked to an alleged verbal attack on Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu.
Deji Adeyanju, another lawyer representing Darlington, claimed that Burna Boy was behind the arrest. The rapper had previously criticized Burna Boy for his association with U.S. rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently facing allegations of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Despite his arrest, Darlington vowed to continue speaking out against Burna Boy, asserting his commitment to holding him accountable for his alleged ties to Diddy.
Before the bail was granted, Adeyanju had announced that Darlington’s Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure (FREP) application had been approved by the court. He stated that the rapper would either be arraigned or released within 48 hours.
“Issues around injustice may take time, but justice will always prevail,” Adeyanju remarked.
