JUST IN: Serving Nigerian Chief Judge Dies at 64
Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, has passed away at the age of 64. Justice Adeyeye died on Monday, November 4, 2024, in a tertiary hospital in Ekiti following a brief illness, according to sources within the judiciary.
Justice Adeyeye’s distinguished legal career spanned several decades. Born in 1960 in Araromi Ugbesi, located in Ekiti East Local Government Area, he was called to the bar in 1986. Beginning his career as a state counsel in the civil service of the former Ondo State, he later transitioned to Ekiti State in 1996 and contributed to the Judiciary Service Commission.
In 2002, he was appointed to the Ekiti State High Court, where he gained recognition for his role in various election petition tribunals. His dedication and contributions led to his appointment as Chief Judge on October 11, 2021, under the administration of former Governor Kayode Fayemi.
News of Justice Adeyeye’s death has sparked tributes from colleagues and legal organizations. The Association of International Female Lawyers (FIDA) in Ekiti expressed deep condolences to his family, lauding his commitment to justice and the legal profession.
