JUST IN: Senegal defeat Morocco 1–0 after extra time to win Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat

Senegal are champions of Africa once again after a dramatic 1–0 victory over Morocco in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, decided by a Pape Gueye goal in extra time at a tense and disorderly Stade Moulay Abdellah.

Gueye scored the decisive goal with a powerful left-footed strike into the top corner, breaking the deadlock in extra time after a fiercely contested final that swung repeatedly between control and chaos.

The match descended into controversy deep into added time when Morocco were awarded a penalty following a VAR review that ruled El Hadji Malick Diouf had fouled Brahim Diaz. Diaz missed the spot kick, triggering furious reactions inside the stadium. Senegal players briefly left the pitch in protest, angered further by the earlier disallowing of an Ismaila Sarr goal.

Security was tested as sections of the crowd broke through barriers in the stands amid confusion and frustration. Play eventually resumed, and Senegal held on to secure the title.

Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy played a decisive role throughout extra time, making key interventions as Morocco pushed for an equaliser. Senegal, visibly exhausted, defended their lead until the final whistle.

The win delivers Senegal their second AFCON title in four years, achieved on Moroccan soil against an unbeaten host side. For Morocco, the defeat ends a strong tournament in heartbreak. For Senegal, it confirms their place at the summit of African football once more.
