JUST IN: Senate Committee Recommends Six-Month Suspension for Senator Natasha, Office Closure
The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct has recommended a six-month suspension for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing violations of Senate rules. The decision now awaits a full Senate vote.
The committee’s chairman, Senator Neda Imasuen, presented the findings, stating that the suspension would take effect from March 6, 2025. If approved, Senator Natasha will be barred from the National Assembly premises, and her office will be locked for the duration of the suspension. Additionally, her salaries and those of her legislative aides will be withheld.
The committee also recommended that she be prohibited from representing Nigeria in any official capacity during the suspension. However, it noted that she could submit a written apology, which the Senate may review as a basis for reconsidering her suspension.
The Senate is expected to vote on the recommendations, which, if upheld, would temporarily strip the Kogi Central lawmaker of her legislative privileges.
