Updated: Rivers State Government Approves N85,000 Minimum Wage for Workers

 

 

The Rivers State Government has approved a minimum wage of N85,000 for civil servants, matching the recent wage increase implemented by Lagos State.

 

The announcement was made by George Nwaeke, the Head of Service, following a closed-door meeting between Governor Siminalayi Fubara, labor leaders, and senior government officials. Nwaeke confirmed that the new minimum wage will take effect immediately.

 

Chukwu Emecheta, Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Team, commended Governor Fubara for fulfilling the expectations of Rivers State workers, emphasizing the importance of this decision in enhancing the welfare of civil servants. He expressed gratitude for the Governor’s commitment to improving the workforce’s conditions.

 

Alex Agwanwor, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State, also spoke on the significance of the new wage, stating that it will significantly alleviate the economic hardships faced by workers in the state.
