(JUST IN) Rivers Explosion: Tinubu, Akpabio, Service Chiefs in Emergency Closed-Door Meeting at Aso Rock
President Bola Tinubu is currently holding a high-level closed-door meeting with Nigeria’s top security and political leadership at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting, which began around 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, includes the service chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and key members of the National Assembly.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele were present, alongside Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who were also seen arriving at the Villa. It remains unclear whether the Speaker and his deputy are directly participating in the security talks.
Also in attendance are National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Director-General of the State Security Service Adeola Ajayi, and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Mohammed Mohammed.
While the agenda of the meeting has not been officially disclosed, it comes in the wake of a late-night explosion on Monday that struck a section of the Trans Niger Pipeline in Bodo Community, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State. The blast occurred near the ongoing Bodo-Bonny Road project and has raised fresh concerns about security and infrastructure safety in the region.
