JUST IN: PSC Elevates Six DIGs, Promotes Enugu CP to AIG, Appoints New Command Heads (Full List)
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of six Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) and elevated the Commissioner of Police (CP) for Enugu State, Uzuegbu Kanayo, to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG). The Commission also appointed new Commissioners of Police for the Enugu and Oyo State Commands.
The newly promoted DIGs include Sadiq Idiris Abubakar, who previously served as the Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory and as Coordinator of the Police Special Forces. Also promoted is Benjamin Nebolisa Okolo, the current AIG of the Information Communication Technology Department at Force Headquarters, Abuja. Williams Adebowale, Commandant of the Police Staff College in Jos, was also elevated.
Others on the list are Bzigu Yakubu Kwazi Bali, AIG of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Enugu; Idegwu Basil Ukuoma, AIG of Zone 14 in Katsina; and Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, AIG of Zone 16 in Yenagoa. Hamzat previously served as Commissioner of Police for Oyo State, CP Border Patrol, and in other key roles within the force.
The PSC also promoted CP Uzuegbu Kanayo, who had previously held several operational and administrative roles, including Assistant Commissioner of Operations in Zone 9, Umuahia, and Commissioner of Police for Operations and Communication at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Additionally, the Commission appointed new Commissioners of Police for two state commands. CP Ademola Johnson, formerly Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Police in Delta State, is now the CP for Oyo State. CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa has been named CP for Enugu State, replacing AIG Uzuegbu Kanayo. Giwa previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Kaduna and Imo States, among other postings.
In a further move, the PSC promoted eight Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs). The newly promoted ACPs are Abdullahi Kamba Usman, Sani Abdu, Ifeanyi Owo, Vincent Orole, Elisha Atikinkpan, Margaret Okonkwo, Alhasan Aliyu Guga, and Imo Owinizi Ezekiel.
The promotions followed a rigorous selection process that included written examinations and interactive oral interviews. A statement issued by PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani confirmed that the promotions were presided over by PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, alongside other senior officials, including retired Supreme Court Justice Paul Adamu Galumje and retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu.
DIG Argungu urged the newly promoted officers to support the Inspector-General of Police in strengthening security across Nigeria and maintaining law and order.
