JUST IN: President Tinubu Honors Super Eagles with Prestigious MON Merit, Generous Rewards

In a noteworthy recognition of their stellar performance at the recently concluded AFCON 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast, President Bola Tinubu has bestowed the prestigious Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) national honor upon the Super Eagles team.

As a token of appreciation, each member of the team has been awarded a residential flat and a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The gesture aims to acknowledge their remarkable achievements and contributions to the nation’s sporting glory.

Despite a valiant effort, Nigeria secured the second spot in the tournament, ultimately yielding the trophy to the host country, Ivory Coast.

The formal conferment of these honors took place at the State House on Tuesday, where all team members and officials, including Alex Iwobi, gathered to receive their titles. The event marks a momentous occasion for the Super Eagles, symbolizing their significant role in the country’s sportsmanship.

In attendance was Alex Iwobi, who, unfortunately, faced cyber-attacks following the team’s loss to Ivory Coast. The Sports Minister recently met with Iwobi, condemning the cyberbullying directed at the player.

The Super Eagles now join the esteemed ranks of past recipients such as Imam Abdullahi Abubakar, HRM Eze Isaac Ikonne, Dr. Faisal Shuaibu, Chief Silva Ejeh Ameh, Alh. Kamoru Ibitoye Yusuf, Mallam Ibrahim Okposi, Alhaji Shehu Uthman, Barr. Chris Ezem, as well as renowned artists Davido and Teni, who have previously been honored with the national distinctions.
