JUST IN: Popular Gospel worship leader Ron Kenoly dies at 81

Ron Kenoly, the American Christian worship leader, singer and songwriter, has died at the age of 81.

His death was announced on Tuesday, February 3, in a statement shared on his Instagram page by his longtime music director, Bruno Miranda. No cause of death was disclosed.

Miranda said Kenoly died earlier that morning and reflected on more than two decades spent working alongside him in ministry across several countries.

He described Kenoly as someone who resisted being labelled an entertainer, insisting instead that his role was to lead people in worship. According to Miranda, Kenoly often emphasised that worship leaders were called not to perform songs but to guide congregations into what he saw as genuine worship.

Miranda said Kenoly taught that worship was rooted in gratitude for Christ’s sacrifice rather than in personal expectations, frequently referencing Psalm 100:4 to explain his approach.

He added that Kenoly carried the same discipline and humility in private life that audiences witnessed during public services, saying his mentor believed worship began long before any music was played.

Kenoly was widely known in Christian circles for his energetic praise sessions and teaching on the role of worship in church life. Over the years, he ministered in churches and conferences around the world and influenced a generation of worship leaders.

Further details are expected.
