JUST IN: PDP BoT Orders NWC to Swear in Sunday Udeh-Okoye as National Secretary
The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has directed the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to recognize and immediately swear in Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the National Secretary. This directive was issued at the end of an emergency meeting held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, and presented by the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara.
During the meeting, the BoT reaffirmed its authority as a key organ of the PDP, citing its constitutional role in ensuring the highest standards of morality within the party. The trustees emphasized their power to call to order any party official whose actions fall short of these standards.
In line with this mandate, the BoT reviewed and adopted the report of its committee, led by Barr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN, regarding the status of the National Secretary. The report upheld the judgment of the High Court of Enugu, which was affirmed by the Court of Appeal, recognizing Udeh-Okoye as the substantive National Secretary. The BoT stated that in the absence of any overriding court decision, the NWC must comply with this judgment.
The trustees urged all PDP organs, stakeholders, and members to respect the court’s ruling, emphasizing the importance of adherence to the rule of law. They also commended the PDP Governors’ Forum, the NWC, and other party bodies for their commitment to upholding the party’s constitution.
Additionally, the BoT expressed satisfaction with the decision to convene the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on March 13, 2025, viewing it as a crucial platform for deliberations that will shape the party’s future.
In a show of unity, the BoT passed a unanimous vote of confidence in its Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and Secretary, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, acknowledging their leadership in stabilizing the party. The trustees concluded by urging all party members to remain united and continue working toward reclaiming the PDP’s place in Nigeria’s leadership.
