JUST IN: NUPENG Suspends Nationwide Strike After DSS-Brokered Meeting
The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has suspended its nationwide strike following a resolution of its dispute with the Dangote Group. The industrial action, which began on Monday, was in protest against the company’s refusal to allow its employees to join the union.
The strike was called off after an intervention meeting convened by the Department of State Services (DSS). The session was attended by the Ministers of Labour and Finance, officials of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and a management team from Dangote led by Seyu Dantata.
While the exact terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, sources confirmed that the parties reached a compromise that paved the way for the suspension of the strike.
