JUST IN: NNPP Expels Abdulmumin Jibrin — “He Has No Value to Add”
The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the House of Representatives member representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency.
The decision, announced on Saturday by the party’s state chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, was linked to alleged anti-party activities and failure to fulfill financial obligations to the party.
According to Dungurawa, Jibrin repeatedly attacked the NNPP and its leadership in the media despite efforts to reconcile him. He said a committee was set up to engage the lawmaker after his controversial interview on Channels Television, but Jibrin’s subsequent statements showed “he had crossed the line.”
“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” Dungurawa told journalists.
The chairman also criticized Jibrin as a “weak politician” whose election victory was possible only through the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform. He accused the lawmaker of failing to pay mandatory party dues and disclosed plans to take legal action to recover the funds.
“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” Dungurawa said.
The development comes less than 24 hours after Jibrin hinted at possibly leaving the party, saying it should not surprise anyone if he makes such a move. He also stressed that he is “old enough to decide what is best” for his political future.
Responding to speculations that Jibrin may return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa insisted such a defection would not weaken the NNPP. He maintained that politics is about collective strength and affirmed that the Kwankwasiyya movement remains firmly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
