JUST IN: Nnamdi Kanu Concludes Private Meeting With Legal Team Ahead of Defence
Detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has concluded a private consultation with his legal team led by former Attorney-General of the Federation, Kanu Agabi (SAN), ahead of the commencement of his defence.
The meeting, which took place in Court 7 at the Federal High Court headquarters in Abuja, was held under tight security. Officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) brought Kanu to the courtroom, where he met with his lawyers in preparation for his case.
The session was part of the defence team’s strategy meeting before Kanu opens his case on Thursday, October 23, as scheduled by Justice James Omotosho. The judge had earlier granted the defendant six consecutive days, beginning from October 23, to open and close his defence following an accelerated hearing order.
During a previous court session, Agabi had requested a private consultation with his client outside DSS premises, expressing concerns that discussions between Kanu and his lawyers could be monitored or recorded by the security agency. Justice Omotosho approved the request and directed that the meeting be held inside the courtroom, with only Kanu and his legal team present.
In compliance with the court’s directive, today’s private consultation took place between 9 a.m. and 12 noon. The court will reconvene on Thursday for the continuation of proceedings when Kanu is expected to begin his defence.
