JUST IN: NLC, TUC Suspend Strike for One Week

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have agreed to temporarily suspend their strike action for one week. This decision comes amid ongoing negotiations with the Federal Government regarding a new national minimum wage.

A source present at the ongoing National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja confirmed the development, stating, “A joint NEC meeting of TUC/NLC has approved to relax the industrial action for one week with immediate effect.”

The strike, which began on Monday, had significantly impacted economic activities by its second day on Tuesday.

Earlier related actions included the picketing of federal and state secretariats as well as the National Assembly in Anambra. Additionally, the Labour movement had shut the gates of the Federal Capital Territory Minister’s office.

The Federal Government expressed a willingness on Monday to increase the proposed N60,000 minimum wage during a meeting with labour leaders. Further discussions between the labour unions and the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage are expected to resume today.
