JUST IN: NJC Recommends Retirement of Imo Chief Judge, Yobe Grand Kadi, Suspends Anambra Judge Over Misconduct
The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the compulsory retirement of Justice T. E. Chukwuemeka Chikeka, Chief Judge of Imo State, and Kadi Babagana Mahdi, Grand Kadi of Yobe State, for falsifying their ages.
This decision was reached during the NJC’s 107th meeting held on November 13 and 14, according to a statement by the council’s spokesperson, Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe.
Disciplinary Actions
The NJC also handed down suspensions to two judges for misconduct. Justice A. O. Nwabunike of the Anambra State High Court has been suspended for one year without pay and placed on the NJC’s “watch list” for an additional two years. Similarly, Justice G. C. Aguma of the Rivers State High Court received a one-year suspension without pay and will also remain under scrutiny for two years post-suspension.
Ongoing Investigations
The council revealed it reviewed a total of 30 petitions through its Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committee. While 22 petitions were dismissed for lacking merit and two were deemed sub judice, the NJC empaneled six committees to further investigate other cases.
