JUST IN: Nigeria Crush Gabon 4–1 to Reach World Cup Play-off Final

Nigeria have defeated Gabon 4–1 after extra time to keep their 2026 World Cup hopes alive. Akor Adams opened the scoring before Mario Lemina’s late deflected strike forced the match into extra time. Substitute Chidera Ejuke restored Nigeria’s lead, and Victor Osimhen sealed the result with two sharp finishes that underlined his dominance after missing a clear chance at the end of regular time.

The match, played under intense pressure, saw tempers flare with several bookings and a lengthy stoppage for VAR checks. Gabon fought hard but faded as Nigeria’s pace and precision broke them apart in extra time. Osimhen, who now has eight goals in qualifying, was substituted late to preserve him for the decisive play-off.

Nigeria will face the winner of Cameroon versus DR Congo in Sunday’s final. The victor of that match advances to the intercontinental play-offs in March for a place at the 2026 World Cup. Gabon’s campaign ends here, while Nigeria’s dream of returning to the world stage remains very much alive.
