JUST IN: Minister Uche Nnaji Set to Address Certificate Forgery Allegations Today
Nigeria’s Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, is expected to publicly respond today to growing allegations that he forged his academic qualifications.
The controversy follows an investigative report by Premium Times alleging that the minister presented fake academic documents, including a university degree and a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate, during his ministerial screening in 2023.
According to the report, the documents Nnaji submitted to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Senate were described as “outright forgeries.” The two-year investigation claimed that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, never issued the degree certificate he claims to hold.
Questions over the authenticity of Nnaji’s credentials have persisted since his nomination in July 2023. Critics have repeatedly accused him of not completing his university education and of submitting false documents to secure his ministerial appointment.
In an apparent effort to clear his name, Nnaji has scheduled a press conference for 2:00 p.m. today at the Raw Materials Research and Development Council in Maitama, Abuja. Invitations to journalists for the briefing were reportedly sent out earlier in the day.
