JUST IN: Inmates Escape Borno Prison Amid Severe Flooding
A prison break has occurred in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, following severe flooding that has devastated the region. The Custodial facility in the city was heavily affected, leading to the escape of an unconfirmed number of inmates.
The floodwaters, which have caused widespread destruction across the state, breached the prison’s security barriers and weakened its structural defences, providing an opportunity for inmates to escape. Authorities report that several of the escapees are considered highly dangerous, and there are concerns they may be armed.
A massive manhunt is currently underway as law enforcement agencies mobilise additional resources to track down and recapture the fugitives. The incident has sparked serious public safety concerns in a region already grappling with the threat of insurgency.
