JUST IN: “I’ll Sack Non-Performing Ministers,” President Tinubu Vows
President Bola Tinubu has pledged to dismiss any cabinet member who fails to meet the expectations of Nigerians. This declaration was made during a meeting with the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.
“I thank the cabinet members for their efforts, but I will relieve any of them of their duties anytime I feel that they are failing Nigerians,” President Tinubu stated.
The President also urged state governments to prioritize local communities, emphasizing the need for accountability and effective administration at the local level. He highlighted the importance of addressing the needs of local residents who live and work in these communities.
“We must consider the needs of the local people. If local governments are not effective in delivering services, as leaders, we must not ignore this. What was good four years ago may not be good today,” he added.
President Tinubu addressed the critical issue of education, particularly the high number of out-of-school children in Nigeria, calling the situation unacceptable. He underscored education as a tool against poverty and stressed the necessity of improving the education system to support national development.
On security, Tinubu praised the efforts of National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and promised increased investment in technology to ensure the safety and protection of Nigerian citizens.
The President also spoke on economic development and livestock management, suggesting that improving dairy farming could significantly boost the economy. He called for more land to be made available for herders and promised financial support to facilitate this.
In his appeal for national unity, President Tinubu highlighted the strength found in Nigeria’s diversity and called for continued support for his government. He announced the formation of a committee, led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, to address the issues raised during the meeting.
The ACF delegation, led by Chairman Barrister Bashir Dalhatu, commended President Tinubu for his achievements in his first year in office. Dalhatu expressed the Forum’s confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, noting his significant support for Northerners and the positive impact on election outcomes.
