JUST IN: House Leader Removed, Tear Gas Fired At Rivers Assembly as Impeachment Plot Against Gov Fubara Intensifies

The Rivers State House of Assembly finds itself embroiled in a fresh crisis, as rumours swirl about a potential impeachment procedure targeting Governor Sim Fubara. On Monday, the House took the extraordinary step of removing its leader, Edison Ehie, setting off a chain of chaotic events.

The situation escalated when Governor Sim Fubara personally arrived at the Assembly Complex, causing panic among House members. Tear gas was fired outside the complex, sending lawmakers scrambling for safety. Simultaneously, a protest erupted outside the Complex, further adding to the turmoil.

These developments come on the heels of a fire that broke out at the Assembly Complex the previous Sunday night. While it remains uncertain whether the fire is directly linked to the ongoing political discord, rumours of a longstanding rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, have been circulating for some time.
