JUST IN: George Elombi Appointed as New Afreximbank President
The Africa Export Import Bank (Afreximbank) has announced the appointment of Dr. George Elombi as its new President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective September 2025. The decision was made by the Bank’s shareholders at the conclusion of Afreximbank’s Annual General Meeting.
Dr. Elombi, a Cameroonian national, has been with Afreximbank since 1996, serving most recently as Executive Vice President, Governance, Legal and Corporate Services. He succeeds Prof. Benedict Oramah, who has led the Bank since 2015.
Throughout his nearly three decades at Afreximbank, Dr. Elombi has been instrumental in developing the Bank’s legal and institutional frameworks, strengthening its capital base, and driving crisis response initiatives across Africa and the Caribbean. In his acceptance speech, he described Afreximbank as “a force for industrialising Africa and for regaining the dignity of Africans wherever they are.”
