JUST IN: Former Presidential Spokesperson Doyin Okupe is Dead
Doyin Okupe, former presidential spokesperson and a prominent political figure in Nigeria, has died. His passing was confirmed on Friday, March 7, 2025.
Okupe was a key player in Nigerian politics, having served as a senior adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan. In the buildup to the 2023 elections, he was the Director-General of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign but stepped down following a court conviction for money laundering.
After the election, Okupe resigned from the Labour Party and later aligned himself with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, becoming one of its vocal supporters.
Emerging reports indicate that his death has been linked to cancer. Okupe had a history of prostate cancer, first diagnosed 16 years ago, and later battled sarcoma in his right shoulder. In October 2023, he was hospitalized with prostate cancer and flown to Israel for treatment. However, sources say his condition did not improve as he and his family had hoped.
