JUST IN: Former Minister of Finance Nenadi Usman Emerges as Labour Party’s Caretaker Chairman
Former Minister of Finance, Senator Nenadi Usman, has been appointed as the chairman of a 29-member national caretaker committee of the Labour Party (LP). This decision was made during an extended stakeholders meeting held at the Banquet Hall of the Abia State Government House in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, on Wednesday, September 4.
Senator Usman, who previously represented Kaduna South Senatorial District in the Senate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), switched allegiance to the Labour Party during the 2023 general elections. Her appointment marks a new chapter in her political journey, as she takes on the leadership role within the LP.
Joining her on the committee is Hon. Darlington Nwokocha, the party’s candidate for the Abia Central Senatorial seat in the 2023 elections.
The announcement of Senator Usman’s new role was made by the Labour Party’s 2023 Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi. In her acceptance speech, Usman emphasized the importance of unity within the party and committed to executing her duties with diligence and integrity.
Notably, the former chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, was absent from the meeting.
