JUST IN: FG in Emergency Closed-Door Meeting With PENGASSAN, Dangote Refinery
The Federal Government has convened an emergency meeting with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and representatives of Dangote Refinery in Abuja as part of efforts to resolve the ongoing dispute between the two parties. The closed-door session is taking place at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, with Minister Mohammad Maigari Dingyadi presiding over the discussions.
Leading the delegation for PENGASSAN is its president, Comrade Festus Osifo, alongside the General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Dr. Nuhu Toro. Government officials are being led by the labour minister, while representatives of Dangote Refinery are also in attendance.
The meeting, originally slated for 2:00 p.m., eventually commenced at about 3:50 p.m. after the delayed arrival of some key stakeholders. In his opening remarks, Dingyadi underscored the importance of the talks, stressing that the dispute poses significant risks to the economy and national security. He noted that the government had been informed of an ongoing strike action by PENGASSAN, making swift resolution critical.
