The federal government has applied to withdraw the charge of illegal possession of firearms filed against Godwin Emefiele, suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The federal government, on Tuesday, approached the federal high court in Ikoyi with an oral application to withdraw the charge.
On July 25, Emefiele was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on “illegal possession” of firearms at a federal high court in Ikoyi.
However, SK Blog learnt that the federal government has filed fresh charges against Emefiele in Abuja.
Speaking with journalists after the day’s proceedings, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Bakodo Abubakar said the fresh charges – with 20 counts – were filed at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.
One of the counts accuses Emefiele of “conferring unlawful advantages”.
