JUST IN: FG Declares One-Day Public Holiday

The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The announcement was made in Abuja on Tuesday through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, extended greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world. He called on the faithful to reflect on and uphold the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion, which he described as vital for building a united and progressive nation.

“The celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers us yet another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” the minister said.

Eid-ul-Mawlid is observed annually by Muslims to commemorate the Prophet’s birth, and it is often marked with prayers, lectures, and community activities across the country.
