JUST IN: FG Begins Payment of N77,000 Allowance to NYSC Members
The Federal Government has commenced the payment of the newly approved N77,000 monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. The increase, announced by President Bola Tinubu in September 2024, had been met with anticipation but faced delays in implementation.
For months, corps members continued receiving the previous N33,000 stipend introduced in 2020 under former President Muhammadu Buhari. However, after nearly six months of uncertainty, reports indicate that the revised allowance is now being disbursed.
A corps member serving in Kwara State confirmed the development, describing the increase as “long overdue.” He noted that payments appear to be happening in batches, with some corps members receiving theirs while others are still waiting. Another corps member in Abuja also verified the payment, emphasizing that it was a long-awaited change.
The rollout follows assurances from the Minister of Youth that the government would clear the backlog of payments. Meanwhile, Nigerians on social media have reacted with mixed emotions—some celebrating the long-anticipated increase, while others await confirmation that they, too, will receive the updated allowance.
