JUST IN: DSS Takes Over National Assembly Amid Impeachment Speculations Against Senate President Akpabio
The National Assembly complex in Abuja saw a dramatic increase in security this morning as operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) took over key positions, following rumors of a potential impeachment move against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
According to a report by OrderPaper, there are speculations that some aggrieved northern senators, allegedly dissatisfied with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, are behind the renewed effort to remove Akpabio from office. This has led to heightened tensions within the legislature.
OrderPaper observed that from “the main entrance to the second gate and all entrances within the premises, DSS men and women dressed in dark-colored suits” were stationed, adding to the sense of urgency and seriousness surrounding the situation.
While internal security forces typically handle parliamentary security, external agencies like the DSS are brought in when there is a significant threat. Their presence aims to safeguard the assembly from any disruptions, ensuring the safety of lawmakers and staff.
