JUST IN: DSS Arrests Suspect Over Attack on Peter Obi, ADC Leaders in Edo

The Department of State Services has arrested a suspect in connection with the recent attack on 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and several leaders of the African Democratic Congress in Benin, Edo State.

The suspect, identified as Udeme Sunday Stephen, was taken into custody following an investigation by the security agency, according to a report by Channels Television.

The incident occurred last Tuesday at the Benin residence of former Edo State governor, John Odigie-Oyegun, who is a senior figure in the ADC. Obi and other party leaders were said to have been present when the attack took place.

Images released after the incident showed damaged vehicles and gates marked by bullet holes.

The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, said the group had just returned from the ADC secretariat, where they formally received the party’s 2023 Edo governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata, into the ADC, before the attack occurred.

Security authorities have not released further details on the motive for the attack or whether additional suspects are being sought.
